If you want to test a tent’s durability, give it to a group of kids! That’s what we’ve been doing for more than two decades, and as a result, One Planet’s Industrial range is tough. The fabrics used in the fly, inner and floor are all heavier and tougher than usual, increasing their tolerance to abuse. We use big zips: they’re not only easier to use, they’re less likely to break. The key/pin attachment on the poles is simple and robust, while the pole clips are virtually unbreakable. And if something does go wrong, our factory is in Melbourne so we can service, repair or provide parts quickly and easily.
Usability Decades of rigorous field-testing by the toughest user group – Australian kids! – ensures that our tents are not only durable, they’re also easy to use. They are made to withstand Australian conditions, from the heat of summer to the scrubby bush, and they do it well: the fact that they are used and preferred by many of Australia’s largest outdoor education providers is proof. Their generous size allows plenty of room to move, stretch and sleep, while the big vestibules make entry easy. The vestibule design protects the tent’s interior from the weather, even when the doors are open, and there’s plenty of room for storing gear. Pitching the tents is also easy due to their simple design using minimum pegs, and there is very little that can go wrong.
Service We build our products to last, and get satisfaction out of seeing our gear still in use after years of hard treatment. The One Planet service doesn’t stop when you buy from us: we’re not based in China, we’re right here in Melbourne, so repairs, service and spares can be provided quickly, easily and efficiently. Our Industrial tents have fixed basic designs and specifications, allowing interchangeable parts between new and old models, and even between tent types. This reduces the gear pool and means that you won’t end up having to throw out a serviceable tent because its broken pole can’t be replaced.
The Ridgeback tent is a two-person tent that, thanks to its single pole structure, is very simple to erect. In fact, it's all easy: putting it up, dividing it into two or three parts for shared carrying, and repairing it if things turn pear-shaped... Designed for three-four season bushwalking use, this tough little number is designed and made for the toughest user group - kids!
The Ridgeback has proven itself over time and is used and preferred by some of Australia's larger outdoor education providers. The big vestibule gives storage room, protected by the overhanging fly even when the door is open. The 75 denier polyester fly and heavy-duty bathtub floor keep the weather out and will take some abuse, as will the alloy pole and pegs. The key-pin pole attachment system is a simple, robust and foolproof system developed specifically for use on our Industrial range, while the #10 YKK coil zips have a width of ten millimetres, double that of most tents. Reflective guy-ropes with in-built storage reduce campsite accidents.
The Ridgeback is designed and built with the same quality features as the other tents in the Industrial range. As with all tents in the range, spare parts are readily available thanks to the fixed basic design and specifications, which allows for interchangeable parts between new and old models. An optional footprint is also available, which can be used with the fly to create a lightweight shelter.
Approximate total weight: three kilograms. Lightweight option (fly, footprint, poles and pegs): approximately two kilograms.
The Caddis is an oldie but a goodie, designed and made for the toughest user group - kids! It's simple to erect, user friendly, has two vestibules for easy access and gear storage, and can fit three students at a pinch.

The Nissen Hut is a very stable, versatile four-season tent, tough enough to cope with the colder, windier weather expected when bushwalking or ski touring year-round. It can fit three people across, has plenty of vestibule room and is as durable as they come.
This tent was remodelled from the One Planet Caddis: we widened the floor plan and made the three poles the same length, at the same time putting the poles in sleeves. (The poles are the same length as the Caddis's short pole for easy gear-pool compatibility.) The identical poles make this tent quick to pitch and easy to service, as well as allowing integral pitching. This means the inner and outer can be pitched at the same time, or it can be dismantled from the inside - great when it's raining. The Nissen Hut can also be used as a lightweight shelter by pitching the fly on its own.

The design of One Planet's Nissen Hut tent was inspired by the simple, reliable, strong and quick to assemble military hut.The original Nissen Hut was designed by Major Peter Norman Nissen in 1916 to cater for the increased demand for accommodation during World War I. The desirable features of the Nissen Hut which are also sought by modern adventurers are:
1. Economic in its use of materials;
2. Portable; and
3. The structure's simple form allowed for ease of erection and removal.
The Nissen Hut could be packed in a standard Army wagon and erected by six men in four hours. The world record for erection was one hour, 27 minutes.
Get back to nature with these simple, practical, lightweight shelters. The fly, guy ropes and pegs are provided: all that's needed is a couple of trekking poles (or branches, if you're really tough!) and you'll be out of the weather in a matter of minutes.
The construction is typical One Planet:
reinforced corners that double as guy-rope pockets;
highly visible guy ropes with shock-cord loops to soften the load when the kids trip over them! Pegs included.

Two massive vestibules allow easy access, as well as plenty of storage room, while the overhanging fly keep the rain out even when the doors are open.
