|One Planet's environmental impact|
At One Planet, we go to great lengths to minimise our environmental impact. We make gear that lasts, reducing the waste of both materials and money. We also service our gear and are very happy to provide spare parts: we don’t want your pack to be binned because a rat ate the hipbelt… Most of our products are made in our Melbourne factory, which has been carbon neutral since 2005. We also offset all our emissions, including staff travel to and from the factory, by planting the equivalent in oxygen-producing trees. And there’s much more…
CO² neutral factory
To minimise our environmental impact, we follow a very stringent daily operating routine in our Melbourne factory.
After the fire that destroyed the One Planet factory in 2004, we relocated to a purpose-designed factory in Sunshine West. Our lovely factory (it’s not often you can use those words together!) and office have many features that are good for both the environment and our staff. The excellent natural lighting is easy on the eyes and allows us to turn off all factory lights in good weather. Air can flow through the space as well, making it easy to cool, although evaporative coolers are used in hot weather. (They are more efficient and use far less energy than air conditioners.)
All our machines were also replaced after the fire, allowing us to find the most suitable, environmentally friendly machinery to start our new factory. They are all driven by compressed air and regularly serviced for maximum efficiency.
